The males are the stronger in this relationship, they start their advances by having a little dance and if the female accepts mating surely begins. It is not a quick process it takes about half an hour.
The female then lays her eggs in unripe fruit so that by the time they hatch they are in the perfect breeding ground which is: decaying fruit hence fruit flies.
About a day after fertilisation the egg hatches and a larva emerges, then to the forth day the pupa emerges, then the pupa turns into a winged insect.

Life Cycle of a Fruit Fly....
Right probably not what you are looking for because lets face it who cares about the life cycle of a fruit fly but it may help a little in your battle against the little pests or you may just find it interesting to know a little bit more about them. I could forward you to a dictionary or something similar but thats all boring so I will explain a little here.
Basically there are 4 stages in the life cycle of the Fruit Fly: Egg, Larva, Pupa and Adult.
In the desired temperature (21ÂșC) these stages will be completed to full adult in less than 2 weeks.
Amazingly after only a mere 48 hours after the first breaths are taken it is possible for the females to start laying eggs.
For females one single sperm is sufficent to fertilise many eggs.

The most annoying things about Fruit Flies
Apart from the solid fact they are really uncontrollably annoying, unlike children you can tell them off and generally they stop annoying you but these pesky creatures never give it a rest and they will fight to their death. The most annoying thing must be the fact that once you feel as if you have got rid of them all, you clean up go to bed. When you get up you find that the problem has escalated further beyond your control especially as you did not realise they have multiplied very quickly in a secret hiding place in your kitchen. The majority of flies you will come across especially during the warmer seasons whether you are aware of it or not these flies are Fruit Flies. Homemade Way to get rid of Flies in House
Homemade way to get rid of flies in house - The best thing about homemade traps is of course cost and the fact that you can make all with the contents in your home.
